Day 10: Walk to Albufeira. January 2019

Umberto’s dream sunrise did not disappoint….

Liisa played her ‘Ocean’ song on the beach, of course!

Umberto had a great knowledge of the cliff top walks round here and took us trekking. The landscape is fascinating with the odd sprinkling of terror if you dare to look down in to the murky depths of the deep holes that offer a shortcut in to the cold Atlantic! Apparently people jump in to the sea through the holes in the Summer. Not me! I am a scaredy-cat! We climb boulders and clamber down narrow, sandy treks and ancient ruins of steps to beautiful secluded beaches. This is a truly gorgeous place to take a hike and I’m sure Umberto will do well when he starts his tour business Albergue Tour Guides this year.

A few happy hours go by and then it is back to Apartment Umberto for breakfast, an unusual dish put together by Liisa, consisting of fried eggs sprinkled with parmesan, crispy bacon, fresh tomatoes and kidney beans. It’s unusual but tasty – try it out!

Albufeira is hot. It is probably below 20°C and with not a cloud in the sky it feels like proper holiday weather. We all head to laze about on sun loungers around the shared pool. Umberto brings his 5 litre box of wine and Liisa her guitar. Umberto has a better phone than either of us and wants to film Liisa telling the stories behind her songs, and playing them, to use on the blog. He is keen to help and get involved in the project! He could be creative director and chief hair stylist! 🙂 Umberto tells us some more stories and has an idea that we could stay for a few weeks and write them down for him to create ‘The adventures of Umberto’ book but I think we need to keep moving, especially as technically we have only actually walked 16km so far!!!!… Maybe we can come back one day… Here is The Adventures of Umberto Part 1.
