It rained, and it rained, and it rained and it rained some more. Was this a tropical storm? Jolien and I thought so as we watched the palm trees swinging about outside and listened to the wind howling and shaking the garden back and forth. Jose, our guest house owner tells us ‘This is normal…’ ‘It is winter…’ It would seem we have been very lucky with the weather these past few days. We have been walking in vests with temperatures approaching 20ºC! The island is known as the Emerald Isle and every where you look is sparkling green lusciousness so I guess it must be normal! That kind of green needs a lot of rain!

We settle in for the day and indulge in the guilt free chilling out that only a rain soaked day can offer. Jolien gets the fire burning early and I keep us well stocked with pancakes served with fried bananas, or lemons and sugar. We drink a lot of herbal tea and watch a lot of Netflix. Even Jose’s cats demand entry and come and snuggle down for the day….

Tomorrow there is more rain forecast but we will brave it as we only have one more day in Furnas and do not want to miss out on a trip to the Botanical Gardens and Thermal Lake!
