Day 11: Pontevedra to Tivo 20Km March 2019

Leaving Pontevedra

We all woke feeling surprisingly okay considering we had consumed about 3 bottles of wine the previous night – that’ll be the 10 o’clock curfew working it’s magic. Everyone should have one! The plan today was to walk 20km. Lucille had spotted a nice little private albergue in a village called Tivo for 10euros a bed. After the humble surroundings of Pontevdera Municipal we were all ready for a little luxury so went with this plan.

The rain continued on and off as we hiked through forests and country roads.

A fairly boring but perfectly pleasant country trek.

Albergue Catro Canos

Tivo is a VERY small village. Well, it probably isn’t actually a village…. The albergue Catro Canos looked cute. It had four rooms with bunks. I got one to myself with just one set of bunks in it. We were the only folk there except for a German couple we had met back in Tui. There was no kitchen or pilgrim menu but a menu of raciones was on offer and as the owners seemed warm and friendly and place rustic and charming we thought it would be a nice night. However…. the showers were not hot, barely warm. The owner asked my whether the showers were okay and I told him no, they were cold, and he assured me he would turn them up but after a repeat cold shower experience the following morning I left cold and cross. The upstairs was freezing too. The owner, again, asked a few time ‘Is it okay upstairs, not too cold?’ to which I replied no, it is very cold. He advised we take the (very thin) blankets from the other beds. The food was tasty though not cheap and I noticed he charged us each for some measly bread! Overall not a great night and I left cold and dirty!
