Day 15: Off to Aljezur and the Daguasoul. Jan 2019

I woke feeling chilled and lazy and totally could not be arsed to leg it to catch the 9:00 bus to Aljezur. That is where I wanted to be by that night, but I knew there was a 15.20 departure too so I had a relaxed breakfast and some coffees and took myself off to find a bar with good internet (the hostel Wi-Fi was pants…) I found myself drawn to the ‘Fool and Horses’ bar! Lol! And made myself at home among the ex-pats, the footy droned from the TV and pics of Del and Rodney surrounded me – it felt nice, comforting! Doesn’t that theme tune just take you back… Not sure this1980s British comedy series made it to Estonia Liisa! Watch the folks in this video and you will see how happy they feel when they hear the iconic theme tune! Their joy is so pure they are moved to dance in the street, their minds transported back to a simpler time when Saturday night was spent leaning on a brown floral velvet effect sofa, picking woodchip lumpets off the walls and watching Only Fools and Horses on the big wood effect telly…

I used my time in Nostalgia land to write yesterday’s blog and book myself a bed at a cheap hostel in Aljezur on Booking.com – The Daguasoul Hostel.

Charlie

I left on the 15:20 bus to Aljezur, about a 30km drive and 4 euro ish. I had told the hostel I would be arriving after 16:30, not realising how close to the bus station it was. There was no one answering the door so I headed to the bar opposite to have a beer and wait a while. I got chatting with a travelling hippy guy named Charlie from Holland. Charlie had a bottle of wine and needed assistance to drink it as he had to drive his camper some place or other so I of course obliged, and we had a fun afternoon swapping travel stories. He invited me to travel on with him and after a couple of glasses it sounded quite exciting but I sensibly decided to honour my booking and stay here in Aljezur to wait for Liisa’s return. Only when travelling would you make a friend who suggests you continue life on the road with them after an hour or so!! 🙂 So anyway I said goodbye to Chillout Charlie and he drove off in to the Hippy inlands. The Dagasoul Hostel was and is fantastic!!!!! I am typing this blog 4 nights later and I’m still here! 🙂 It’s warm, it’s cosy, it’s chilled – it is THE bestest, homeliest hostel I have ever stayed in!!!!

After Charlie’s wine I was ready for an early night. There was a couple of French dudes lounging in the living room who kindly shared their pizza with me and then I was off to bed in my cute little room with it’s single bunk-bed.

The Daguasoul….
