Day 19: Jolien, Jolien, Jolien, JOLIEN…. Jan 2019

She’s a super cool, extremely funny and lovely young Dutch gal who had been travelling in Portugal and had taken a volunteer job at a work-away which had not gone too well…. She had lasted one night and found herself at Daguasoul. We decided to go for a hike together, a 12 kilometre walk though rolling hills and splendid countryside to the coast, a place called Arrifana. It felt great to be walking again. Jolien has not been trekking much and was a little daunted by the distance but made it fine with a few stops to eat our picnic of Tuc crackers, biscuits and boiled eggs.

We met a very friendly Alpaca along the way…

We made it to Arrifana and had a well earned beer before hitching back to the hostel.

Hitching is so easy here! Basically 90% of all cars stop, even if it’s just to chat about where you’re headed! Home for a veggie rice and a chilled evening with some music…

Jolien enjoyed the hike and is considering joining the Camino Family for some more wandering….
